Setup DMS
Make sure your system is on a home network. Users have 3 choices in setting up file sharing.
a. General File sharing:
1. Open start menu and click "Settings". It is located on the right side of the start menu, or application list. Or, type "Settings" in the search bar on the taskbar and open the Settings app from the search result.
2. In the settings app, open "Network & Internet".
3. If you are connecting to Wi-Fi to access to the internet, Select "Wi-Fi". Then click the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) you are connecting to. If you are using wired network, select "Ethernet" and click the wired network name.
4. Turn on the "Find Devices and Content" option.
b. HomeGroup sharing:
1. Open start menu and click "Settings". It is located on the right side of the start menu, or application list. Or, type "Settings" in the search bar on the taskbar and open the Settings app from the search result.
2. In the settings app, open "Network & Internet", and select "Status" at the left pane.
3. Click “HomeGroup”.
4. Click "Create HomeGroup", and enable sharing for music, pictures, and videos.
5. In order for other computers to join your HomeGroup it is important to remember the automated membership password.
c. Enable the server mode function.
This step is required so that your other devices within your home network can view the media content on your Windows 10 system. This enables the Windows 10 system to function as a server location. This only has to be done once. Follow these steps:
1. In the search box in Windows Task Bar. Type "Windows Media Player" in the search box.
2. Select the Windows Media Player application from the search results.
3. Once Windows Media Player launches, select ”Recommended settings” and click “Finish”.
4. Once in the Windows Media Player application, select the “Stream” option found on the top left application area. “Stream” is located between “Organize" and "Create Playlist”.
5. Click “Stream”, select “More streaming options...”.
6. Under “Show Devices” select “Local Network” and then select “Allow All”. Accept the “Allow All Media Devices” user control popup window by selecting “Allow All Computers and Media Devices”.
7. Continue to click “Next” to finish out the setup. Closeout Windows Media Player once completed.
